The Lone Horse

A small group of horses ran by Ted's property this morning. I was relived knowing the dogs were inside and missed the action. But of course, it wasn't that easy; there was on straggler that came through looking for his people. Jasper followed him so I decided to gear up and head out to free the lone traveler of the unwanted company.

Jasper, Lobo, 13 and Big Cat now have a new spot to hang outdoors. Ted built a deluxe, insulated pet house. Jasper & Lobo tried their best to help by bringing supplies to Ted.

Once the dogs discovered their efforts were futile, Jasper decided to supervise and wait a patiently for the finished product.

One of Lobo's favorite past-times is to playfully attack Jasper at every opportunity he gets. Another popular past-time of the "dynamic duo" is to follow Ted and wrestle on top of whatever he may be working on at the moment.

Jasper's style is evolving. My Mom found this hip dog harness for him and color coordinated it with his spots. Besides adding to his wardrobe, this stylish little vest keeps Jasper safe when he rides in the car.

Our friend Tachikara

Last week we lost a loyal companion and very good dog, Tachikara. He was a very special dog, diagnosed with diabetes at a young age which was followed by blindness. With all the love and care that Ted gave him he lived a very happy and active life.

Tachikara quickly adapted to the challenges he faced and learned his way around the property and the routine and needs of his human and animal companions alike. He was always the first to greet you upon arrival and always attentive when a ball was in play.

Tachikara enjoyed a good scratch on the rear-end which would send him in circles with his jaw open and sometime great barks of joy. These barks could also be heard if you mentioned the word ball and played a game of "ball chase" with him (it was the thrill of the chase, retrieval of the ball was un-important to him).

He had a special bond with each of us, and a very special bond with his closest animal companion Big Cat. We all will miss him dearly.

First Birthday

For Jasper's first birthday we headed to the Ranch to celebrate with his brother, dad and extended Dog family. We took Ted's dog Lobo along for the fun too . . .

After 14 days of having stiches in, Jasper healed and we took him in for one last look. He's all settled in the back seat of my car and ready to go home and run free without a cone or a t-shirt.

On Sunday afternoon Ted took Jasper to have his drainage tube removed. At that time the vet was concerned that his wound was not healing quickly enough. They ended up cutting away some dead skin and tissue on the edges and re-stitching the wound. He has been on serious lock down, wearing a "kennel issue" white t-shirt to keep the stitched area clean.

My baby boy was in a side impact accident with a trailer hitch while playing fetch with Ted, Tachikara and Lobo. After the incident Jasper ran off and hid from Ted and his animal search party for about an hour. Once he reappeared we took him to Animal Emergency in Reno. He will be OK but is in a cone for 10 days and has to learn to live life in the middle and slow lanes.

About 16 to 18 stitches with a drain installed for the next five days.

We picked him up the next morning all stitched up, drain in and cone on. The doctor said that Jasper was a model patient and that he is a very polite dog :)

Ted and I went to pick-up Jasper after a week at the ranch and once again reconsidered bringing him home (not really). Apparently he decided to get super dirty the last day of his stay.

Adjusting to life as a eunuch. Little Jasper's manhood took a little longer to locate. The surgery went well, he will never view going to the vet again as such a care-free process. Onto living with the cone now for 10 days (yeah, right).
